2025 Artist LineUp

Cheap Trick

Currently gearing up for their 50th anniversary year, Cheap Trick remain an indisputable, indispensable rock ’n’ roll institution, beloved everywhere for their instantly identifiable, hugely influential union of mischievous wit and maximum melodies, powerhouse pop hooks and razor-sharp riffs. Established almost half a century ago by Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar), and Bun E. Carlos (drums), the Rockford, IL-based band has become part of the very fiber of American music, with more than 40 international Gold and Platinum certifications, myriad awards and industry honors, featured appearances on over 20 movie soundtracks, and total record sales now well in excess of 20M. Five decades on, Cheap Trick remains the same at its core as ever – four great guys, three great chords, and an unparalleled canon of tunes that will last an eternity, from “He’s A Whore,” “California Man” and “Dream Police” to “Surrender,”  “I Want You To Want Me” and the worldwide #1 hit single, “The Flame.”

“The songs are why everybody knows Cheap Trick,” says Rick Nielsen. “We have some good songs. ‘I Want You To Want Me” has been around for forty years but people still love it. And even if you’re sick of it, it’s over in three minutes! The songs are still relevant, they still have the right words and the right emotions to move 99% of all living humans.”

Cheap Trick first came together in 1974 when Zander accepted Nielsen and Petersson’s invitation to join their new band. Energetic live sets around the Midwest and an incendiary demo soon saw the band signed to Epic Records, which released their self-titled debut album in February 1977. Though it failed to chart upon arrival, Cheap Trick proved an enduring hard rock landmark with such signature songs as “Elo Kiddies,” “Oh, Candy,” and the oft-covered, hugely influential “He’s A Whore.”

In Color followed in September 1977, remarkably little more than six months after their debut. Once again, the album demonstrated the pure pop majesty of Cheap Trick’s songcraft, with singles like “Clock Strikes Ten” and the chart-topping “I Want You to Want Me” proving massive hits in Japan, paving the way for a pair of concerts at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan on April 28 and 30, 1978.

Indeed, when Cheap Trick finally arrived in Japan, they were greeted with a fervor not seen since the heyday of Beatlemania, with 12,000 fans screaming so loud they nearly drowned out the band. Their creative drive seemingly inexorable, Cheap Trick returned home and released their third album in just over one year, 1978’s Heaven Tonight. The album proved Cheap Trick’s breakthrough, earning RIAA Platinum certification fueled in large part to the one and only “Surrender.” Named by Rolling Stone as “the ultimate Seventies teen anthem,” “Surrender” was the band’s first “Hot 100” chart success and remains one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest assertions of rebellious revelry.

With “Surrender” rock-and-rolling radios around the world, Cheap Trick treated Japanese fans to their first live album, Cheap Trick at Budokan. Though intended for Japanese release only, an estimated 30,000 import copies were sold in the US and the album was released domestically in February 1979. If “Surrender” had lit the fuse, Cheap Trick at Budokan saw the band finally blow up, peaking at #4 on the Billboard 200 while the high-speed first single, “I Want You to Want Me,” proved their first top 10 hit, reaching #7 on the “Hot 100.” Certified 3x Platinum in 1986 by the RIAA, Cheap Trick At Budokan has been acclaimed as one of the greatest live albums of all time and in 2019 was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The wind at their back, Cheap Trick returned to the studio and unleashed Dream Police in September 1979. With Cheap Trick at Budokan still dominating rock radio, the album showcased a more expansive sonic approach from the band and proved an even greater chart success, ascending to #6 on the Billboard 200 and RIAA Platinum certification on the back of such milestone singles as the sweeping “Voices” and the classic title track.

In 1980, Cheap Trick pushed their sound even further on that same year’s All Shook Up, paying homage to their British Invasion heroes with the assistance of legendary producer George Martin and engineer Geoff Emerick. The band kept up a steady string of hits like 1985’s top 10 rock favorite, “Tonight It’s You.” Co-written alongside some of the era’s top pop songwriters, 1988’s Lap of Luxury rocketed Cheap Trick back to the upper chart echelons, propelled by the global pop success of “The Flame.” Widely regarded as perhaps the definitive power ballad, the single rose to the peak position on Billboard’s “Hot 100” – Cheap Trick’s first-ever #1 hit. “The Flame” was followed by another huge hit single in the band’s top 5 cover of Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel.”

Cheap Trick kicked off the 90s with Busted, featuring guest appearances from such friends as Foreigner’s Mick Jones, Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and Sparks’ Russell Mael. The decade saw the band’s influence grow even larger, with countless artists from Nirvana and Green Day to Fountains of Wayne and Weezer proclaiming their devotion to Cheap Trick’s crunchy sound and clever vision. In 2010, drummer Daxx Nielsen joined Cheap Trick when the seemingly irreplaceable Carlos departed the band. Cheap Trick’s first album with the new lineup, 2016’s Bang Zoom Crazy…Hello affirmed them to be as idiosyncratically irresistible as ever before, a callback to their classic canon yet somehow as inventive and exciting as a bunch of crazy kids just coming out of the garage.

2016 also saw Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on their first nomination, a long overdue acknowledgement of their pioneering sound and influence, likewise recognizing the band’s millions upon millions of fans around the world. Cheap Trick closed the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony with an show-stealing performance of “Surrender,” “Dream Police,” and “I Want You To Want Me.” Members of the evening’s other top inductees – including longtime friend Steve Miller – then joined the band for a memorable all-star jam on Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That A Shame,” a song famously featured on Cheap Trick At Budokan.

Having played more than 5,000 shows and counting over the course of their larger-than-life career, Cheap Trick remain indefatigable, lighting it up at arenas, concert halls, and amphitheaters worldwide more than 150 nights each year. Though the COVID pandemic forced them off the road for perhaps the longest time in their storied history, the band returned with renewed stamina, hitting the endless highway in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia for sold-out headline runs, top-billed festival appearances, and tours alongside Steve Miller Band, Rod Stewart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, ZZ Top, Stone Temple Pilots, to name but a few.

Thing is, where other artists of their vintage might be content to rest on their hard-earned laurels, Cheap Trick have continued to expand their recorded catalog without losing a step. The band’s 20th studio album, 2021’s In Another World, found Cheap Trick once again doing what they do better than anyone – crafting indelible rock ‘n’ roll with high craft, cheeky humor, and amp-blasting power. Produced by Academy Award-nominated producer/songwriter Julian Raymond, the album was met by worldwide critical applause and made history as the week’s top-selling rock album while debuting at #7 on Billboard’s “Top Album Sales” – Cheap Trick’s first top 10 and highest-ranking LP in the chart’s 29-year history.

Now, with their 21st studio album and a typically epic tour celebrating their 50th anniversary on the horizon, Cheap Trick determinedly remain a going concern, not merely legends but a vital and vibrant fact of life. Perhaps Associated Press said it best: “All we can do is be thankful for the longevity and endless creativity of the quartet from Rockford, Illinois.”

“I don’t ever see us quitting,” Robin Zander says. “We’re not cut out for sitting around and watching TV.”

“This is what we do,” says Tom Petersson. “We’re very proud of our music, we have no problem going around the world playing these songs. That’s what we do.”

“We’re not a nostalgia band,” Rick Nielsen says. “We never stop making records, we never stop touring. We’ve had ups, we’ve had super lows, but we kept at it and I think people appreciate that. Sometimes I think we’re just too dumb to quit. We just keep going.”

Matisyahu

Creativity is like a fire in a fireplace: You have to tend it or it will go out. For nearly two decades, Matisyahu has kept his creative spirit aflame by evolving his sound, melding genres, and testing the limits of the musical traditions that have inspired him. His latest release, Hold The Fire, and its leadoff single “Fireproof” takes inspiration from a fire dream inspired by Matisyahu's Old Testament religion, which has meant so much to his spiritual and creative life since his recording career began in 2004 and his breakout track "King Without a Crown" blasted into the Billboard charts in 2005. In a roundabout way, those same Old Testament roots springboarded Matisyahu's music career.

Growing up outside New York City, the young Matthew Miller followed jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Then, in Bob Marley and reggae, he found that the messaging of Rastafarianism was sourced in part from that same Old Testament. The sound that emerged on his first albums—including his first two studio releases as well as 2005's Gold-certified Live at Stubb's—embraced both the spirit of reggae and his spirituality and roots in Judaism. Buoyed by hits like "King Without a Crown," albums like the Grammy-nominated and Billboard No.1-ranked Youth in 2006, and the Gold-certified 2009 antiwar hit "One Day" (streamed over 150 million times on Spotify alone), he toured extensively through the second half of the aughts with a high-energy stage show that has since grown to include more improvisation. All the while his music expanded into a shapeshifting collision of reggae, hip-hop, alt rock and boldly inventive pop. Today, he continues to be inspired by evolving musical trends, finding linkages and loops between eras and genres. Matisyahu's spirituality has evolved in parallel with his music, though his Jewish heritage remains a central theme throughout his life and music. The new EP, Hold The Fire (out February 2024), also finds him reflecting on celebrity and artistic success. For Matisyahu, “the unbelievable and miraculous feeling of being connected to our people” is what keeps the creative fire alight.

Arrested Development

The multi-platinum, Grammy Award Winning group Arrested Development delivers an onstage energy to thirsty audiences looking to quench their soul! It’s been thirty years since a new group called Arrested Development slammed the gangsta dominated world of hip hop with defiant lyrics of hope. Apparently, the world was ready for the change as AD became the first ever hip-hop artist to receive the “best new artist” Grammy, (a distinction it still maintains today in that category). In addition, the group also received a Grammy award for “best rap single” for their anthemic prayer- like hit song, Tennessee. The song has gone on to be named as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in the top 100 Greatest Songs of the 90’s by VH1.

Money came in but not for precious stones and big cars. Instead, these pioneers of the conscious rap game took one big step for mankind by giving back and becoming the first African American artists to donate money to Nelson Mandela and the ANC. They used their voices and their status to the benefit of many underprivileged brothers and sisters around the world.

With the success of the single Mr Wendal, Arrested Development brought the issue of homelessness to the forefront. The group donated half of the royalty earnings from Mr Wendal to the National Coalition of the Homeless. Awards, chart success and accolades continued to follow. One of the highlights was being asked to write a song for Spike Lee’s movie about minister and human rights activist, Malcom X. The movie, X, went on to become one of Spike Lee’s most highly acclaimed works. The Arrested Development song, Revolution, would forever be associated with one of the most important Spike Lee joints.

Their album, “3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of…”, earned them two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Rap Single (Tennessee), 2 MTV awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and the NCAAP Image Award. Rolling Stone magazine named them Band of The Year in 1992, while VH-1 named them one of the greatest Hip-hop artists of all time! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame even named the AD smash “Tennessee” one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. Sharing the stage with such important figures such as Nelson Mandela, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Hilary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, AD are the categorical definition of legends. Their sophomore release Zingalamaduni was a critics’ favorite garnering another Grammy nomination and selling 500,000 copies.

Just as it seemed that positive hip hop had found a way of being embraced by the mainstream, a new wave of negative hip hop artists, demeaning women, glorifying drugs and promoting criminality, came along and energized the base and the corporate record companies, prompting record executives to inject more and more money to get these negative stereotypes into the minds and hearts of young people, of whom many, were desperately searching for their path  and identity in life. The move proved to be an enormous success for these artists, while making corporations billions of dollars.

With the pressures of the music industry weighing heavily, and inner turmoil striking within the group, it was time for Arrested Development to take a break and redefine their individual and collective purpose. For some members, it was time to take a hiatus from the industry, for a few, it was time to start a family, while other members delved into new musical projects and collaborations.

In the year 2000, Arrested Development reemerged with a new lineup and a new album called “Heroes of the harvest” This time the inner turmoil was replaced by inner peace, the pressures of the industry were lifted, and one of hip hop’s best, was back.

For the last thirty years, Arrested Development has performed sold-out concerts in every part of the world. In September 2019, the band was given an award at the Black Music Honors Awards.

This award acknowledges Artists who have made a significant contribution to African American Music. The band continues to release new music and find new success in different corners of the globe. Their shows are a celebration of life. Experiencing an Arrested Development concert is an uplifting and spiritual event wrapped into one big party. Group founder and lead vocalist, Speech has released two documentaries. Hoodwinked aka The Nigga Factory (over 1 million social media views) featuring among others, Chuck D, and David Banner. The Ni%#a Factory is hailed as a MUST SEE by Boyce Watkins (Your Black World) and the powerful full-length doc 16 Bars where Speech goes into a jail for 10 days to write music with inmates. 16 Bars has won numerous film festival awards and is presently available on streaming platforms worldwide.

In 2020, the group released "Don't Fight Your Demons" and in 2021 "For the FKN love" Both albums made it on numerous album of the year lists! Their single, "VIBE" ft. Big Daddy Kane, Cleveland P Jones & Tasha LaRae reached #1 on the CBC Music charts and their second single, "Swing Um" ft. Masta Ace, Fatman Scoop & Dell-P also reaching #1 on the Hip Hop Gods charts!

The band continues their forward march of curating great music that is about self reflection and igniting change. Their recent double album, ‘Bullets in the Chamber’ is no exception. The 21- track project features a selection of legendary musicians including: Chuck D, Canibus, Diana King, Sa-Roc, Ras Kass, Sky Zoo, Grandmaster Caz, Sol Messiah & O'hene Savant. Executively produced by Speech for Vagabond Productions and Configa. The single "Hip Hop Saves Lives", released December 2023, features the incomparable Chuck D & Grandmaster Caz. ‘Bullets in the Chamber’ was released January 12th, 2024 and brings incomparable lyricism, storytelling, and cognizant awareness delivered in a fashion only Arrested Development can carry through!

The English Beat

The English Beat is a band with an energetic mix of musical styles and a sound like no other. The band's unique sound has allowed it to endure for nearly four decades and appeal to fans, young and old, all over the world.

When The English Beat (known as The Beat in their native England) rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of massive social and political unrest and economic and musical upheaval. This set the stage for a period of unbridled musical creativity, and thanks in large part to the Punk movement and it's DIY approach to making music, artists like The Beat were able to speak out and speak their mind on the news of the day, as in “Stand Down Margaret”, things that mattered to them and the youth culture, as in “Get A Job”, and universal matters of the heart and soul, as in their classic hits “I Confess” and “Save It For Later”.

The Beat first came to prominence as founding members of the British Two Tone Ska movement, with their classic first album “Just Can't Stop It” fitting squarely in that genre. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, the band became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of that movement.

However, band leader Dave Wakeling never felt constrained by the movement. The band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. The band's sound continued to evolve over their three studio albums, through the General Public era (a band formed by Dave with The Beat’s toaster, Ranking Roger), and it has continued its evolution with the forthcoming English Beat album “Here We Go Love”, a PledgeMusic crowd-funded album set for a 2016 release, the band's first new album since 1982's “Special Beat Service”.

Consummate showman that he is, Dave Wakeling continues to keep The Beat alive and strong, touring the world as The English Beat with an amazing all-star ska backing band playing all the hits of The Beat, General Public, and songs from his new album “Here We Go Love”.

You just can’t stop The English Beat!
